Arch Four , Area 35 Toy and Model Boats (display) |
A hand-engineered model of Her Majesty's Hospital Ship, Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) ship Maine.
The model's display base is part of the deck of the original ship. The model was built by Surgeon-Commander E.J. Littledale (museum founder Chris Littledale's father) while it was in service in Malta, between 1943 and 1946.
The original passenger steam ship was given by the "Ladies of Maine" USA for the war effort in the Mediterranean, and was converted into a hospital ship by the Royal Navy.
