A 1:1200 model of a Reconstructed Royal Navy "A" ("Amphion") Class submarine, part of the Tri-Ang Minic range produced between 1959 and 1964.
This model has a grey body and black detail – the central periscopes and turret guns in the illustration are are replaced by a tall conning tower.

M817 H.M. SUBMARINES, "A" CLASS – Originally designed for the Pacific service. They vary considerably in appearance but all have the "Snort" breathing device. Tonnage is about 1,400 on surface and 1,600 submerged. Length 281' and surfaced speed 18 knots. Length 2 3⁄16 in. (6.1 cms)
M819 – This model represents the submarines of the "A" class that have undergone complete reconstruction during the last few years. Some carry no guns at all. Length 2 3⁄16 in. (6.1 cms)
The original submarines
Sixteen Royal Navy "A" Class submarines were ordered during the Second World War and commissioned between 1945 and 1948, and reconstructed along the lines of the American "Guppy" class submarines.
The major reconstruction of these boats involved the installation of a streamlined 26 ft. 6 in. enclosed-fin conning tower. At the same time the two external bow tubes, two external stern tubes and the 4" deck gun were removed from most of the boats, reducing them to six 21" internal torpedo tubes, four bow and two stern.
