The Associated Equipment Company (AEC) were founded in 1912, and produced a range of heavy buses and lorries before being taken over by British Leyand in 1962. Many of their models had evocative names beginning with "M" or "R", such as the Matador, Militant, Monarch, Mammoth and Mercury. AEC are best-known for the Routemaster London Double-decker buses.
