A set of fifteen scratchbuilt models built by Ken A. Allbon of Seaford, Sussex, showing the progress and evolution of the Brighton tram and bus from the horse and steam-powered trams in 1903 to the red and cream trolleybuses of the 1940s.
Allbon painstakingly researched and created all of these models between 2010 and 2012. The models went on display in May 2013.
Scratchbuilding
Scratchbuilding (as opposed to kitbuilding) involves making a model "from scratch" from the materials available, which might include card, plastikard, metal sheet, lengths of metal or plastic rod, tube or angle obtainable from modelling shops, paper, wire, thread (which can be stiffened and thickened by painting), and, basically, anything else that's available, and Allbon's model set demonstrates a range of materials and techniques.
