Minix vehicles

1960s -

The plastic MINIX model cars and accessories manufactured by Lines Brothers from about 1964 onwards were designed primarily as "set dressing" for the Tri-ang Railways and then Tri-ang Hornby model railways ranges.

1966: "MINIX - THE GREATEST little CARS IN THE WORLD"

Scaled to 1: 76 to be compatible with 00-gauge railways, they filled a gap that wasn't covered by the existing Tri-ang Spot-On or main Dinky Toys range (which Tri-ang acquired in 1965 when they took over Meccano Ltd.). Although Meccano Ltd. had produced a small range of 1:76 "Dublo Dinky" vehicles, these were painted diecast metal, which was probably "overkill" for little cars that were likely to spend their entire lives sitting peacefully on trackside roads or on the backs of car transporter wagons, rather than being played with aggressively like the 1:43 Dinky vehicles.

The range included sixteen main vehicles and a few auxiliary pieces such as a caravan and boat transporter.
