LNER streamlined locomotive 2509 "Silver Link" (1935-62) was the first of the A4 Class streamlined locomotives, and one of the four silver-coloured A4s to haul the "The Silver Jubilee" streamlined train.

As the first of the four "silver streaks", Silver Link is probably one of the three most famous and most-modelled A4s (along with the later 4468 Mallard and 4498 Sir Nigel Gresley).

"Silver Link"

The name was apparently inspired by an 1805 poem by Sir Walter Scott, The Lay of the Last Minstrel:

True love's the gift which God has given
To man alone beneath the heaven:
...
The silver link, the silken tie,
Which heart to heart, and mind to mind
In body and in soul can bind.

Confusingly, the name was later adopted by Silverlink Trains (Silverlink Metro and Silverlink County), from 1997-2007.
