A Marionette of a Pirate made by Pelham Puppets

This puppet was an SM type, defined by the movable mouth which is controlled by an extra string on the control bar. Various different designs of pirate were produced from 1981 onward.

Description

Pirate standard string Pelham puppet.

Round wooden head with painted eye patch, green eye and mouth half open. Metal button nose. Black rabbit-fur hair covered with black cotton cap. Ears metal eyelets with brass ring in one. Blue light wool shirt, long sleeve with black felt bolero, brown and white striped cotton breeches with brown cotton belt, wooden sword stuck in belt. Black wooden lower limbs and clog-type boots. Folding wooden "cross" control.

Hands lead, flat, closed type.

Box, brown card, Pelham label lid, 'Type SS' and 'Pirate Man' stamped on lid end.
