Meccano Motor Car Constructor.

Although it wasn't difficult to make some sort of model car out of Meccano, the company understood that some people preferred their model cars to have smooth bodywork and not to be perforated with lots of holes, and they produced dedicated model car sets with dedicated bodywork panels and pieces, and clockwork motors. These allowed some opportunity to change parts of the design, but had a minimum of external screwheads and holes.

Outfit No.1 and Outfit No.2 were not compatible - No.2 produced larger cars (and cost around twice as much).

Prebuilt

The "MCC" models could also be ordered form the factory, pre-built. For the No.1 kit, the prebuilt variations on offer were:

  • 1/1 Sports Tourer with Hood
  • 1/2 Salon Coupe
  • 1/3 Road Racer
  • 1/4 Sports Tourer

Meccano also produced dedicated "non-constructor" models which were more conventional clockwork models with no assembly required, but which were often advertised alongside the "constructor" outfits.

Motor Car Lighting Set

A wiring kit with tiny headlight bulbs that could be fitted inside an MCC car, and powered by a 3 Volt battery.

Motor Car Garage

A perhaps slightly unimpressive stand-alone garage to hold one car, that looked as if it might be made out of cardboard.
