A bright yellow Hornby Series Fyffes van with a red roof and base, 1937.
The Fyffes Banana van was one of Hornby’s popular private owner rolling stock items. Unlike an earlier bright yellow commercial goods van, the Colman’s Mustard van of 1924, the Fyffe’s van wasn’t dropped after its first appearance in 1931, but went on to have 3 more versions produced over the next 8 years.
Originally, the model had a hinged door, but a sliding door tested later that year proved to be workable with the transfers used on them. Other vans had difficulties applying transfers to sliding doors.
