A tan Lincoln ‘Zephyr’ Coupe with brown wings and a low silver radiator. 1948-1950.

The colour scheme identifies the model as a post-war version.

Modelled on the Lincoln-Zephyr V-12, a roomy saloon car capable of respectable performance.

Lincoln-Zephyr

Lincoln-Zephyr was Lincoln’s marque for their lower priced luxury vehicles. Lincoln, themselves a division of Ford, produced vehicles under the marque from 1936-1940. The marque was notable for introducing the first commercially successful streamlined cars. After the failure of the similar Chrysler Airflow there was cause to suspect the prospects of a streamlined vehicle, but the Lincoln Zephyr dramatically surpassed Chrysler's vehicle and any other vehicles previously produced by Lincoln.

Ford

The Ford Motor Company was founded in Detroit by Henry Ford and 11 investors in 1903. Their famous Model T’s arrival in 1908 was a landmark in economic design and production techniques, contributing to vastly increased accessibility of motor vehicles. The company had to develop more innovative new manufacturing techniques such as moving assembly lines to meet the large demand for the car. By 1914, more than half a million Model Ts had been sold; by 1923, the company made more than half of all American automobiles.

Despite having to sell off many of the assets it acquired over the years, including major companies like Jaguar and Aston Martin, Ford has endured the sharp downturn in the American automobile manufacturing industry relatively well.
