Bachmann started in the US in 1935 as a manufacturer of tinplate toys and went on to produce plastic goods. After manufacturing their own toy trains, they became the largest US distributor of toy trains and model railways.
In 1987, Bachmann were bought by Kader Industrial Co. Ltd of Hong Kong, who had been manufacturing for Bachmann since the 1950's, and who also acquired the German Liliput brand.
Kader also manufactured for Palitoy, who produced the Mainline Railways range, and retained the tooling for the Mainline items when Palitoy were taken over by Dapol.
The Bachmann Branchline 00-gauge range appeared in 1990, and Bachmann introduced their Blue Riband branding for premium-quality models in their range in 1998.
Other products
Bachmann produced a range of cartoonish London Underground train models with faces as tie-in for the "Underground Ernie" animated children's tv series.
