Wooden road and rail sets (BigJigs)
One of several boxes of wooden train sets, Museum play collection [image info]
The Museum keeps a substantial amount of Brio-compatible wooden trains made by BigJigs suitable for active play for small children, which we use on our Sunday Children's Play Days.
Construction
Track is hardwood (straight, curved, flat, sloped, etc.), and trains have rounded magnets at one or both ends to allow them to connect together to form trains. The track and trains are compatible with parts made by Brio.
These sets allow children to assemble track and trains very easily, so that they can get a sense of achievement from having built something, and still have plenty of time for playing with the results.
Road and Rail sets
The Museum's play collection includes both BigJigs Road and BigJigs Rail sets, as well as a number of "dual" parts (road and rail bridges, level crossings, and so on) that connect to both systems.
Main items
- Freight Train Set BJT017 - multiple
- City Road and Rail Set BJR015
- Grand Central Station BJT201
- Roundabout Set BJR012
- Figure-8 roadway BJR013
In addition to these, we also keep a quantity of additional BigJigs stations, track, tunnels, cuttings, bridges, and other wooden road and rail accessories and cars and trains to run on them.
