Arch Two , Area 9 Biscuit Tins (display) |
Shelf 3 |
A lithographed tinplate castle section sold as a promotional biscuit tin by Peek Freans, manufactured by Huntley, Boorne and Stevens, which first appeared in 1923.
Details
The biscuit tin consists of a tall square-cross-section castle tower with castellations along the top of its four walls (and a tinplate "PF" flag), attached by one corner to three hinged castle wall sections, the centre section having a castle entranceway.
When sold, the three hinged walls would presumably have been wrapped around the castle tower. With just two sections, one could make a basic two-tower castle, and with four, it was possible to make something really quite grand-looking.
