August: Toying With Science!

Spaghetti Towers

Wednesday 2nd August, 2pm-4pm – Like Meccano, building towers out of spaghetti and marshmallows is a great way to encourage children to think like engineers. Come and test the strengths and weaknesses of different shapes to see who can build the tallest, strongest structure!

Kinetic Carousel

Wednesday 16th August 2pm-4pm – Build a Kinetic Carousel and watch it spin wildly with potential and kinetic energy!

Balloon Car Racers

Wednesday 30th August 2pm-4pm – Investigate physics, engineering and motion by building handmade race cars out of cardboard, straws and a balloon, then modify your kart designs to see which goes faster racing against each other.

Heritage Open Day tours

Saturday 9th September 2017 – The arches where the museum is sited have a fascinating historical background, so make sure you book your place for our special guided tours, looking at the history of the building and its unique collection of toys. Train Running Day

Saturday 14th October 2017 – Once again, we take down the plastic screen and run a host of 1930s locos and rolling stock on the big central 1930s layout.

Spaghetti Towers

Thursday 26th October 2017 – Spaghetti Towers returns! 2pm - 4pm.

Museums At Night: A Steampunk Soiree at the Toy Museum

Saturday 28th October 2017, 7pm-10pm – Enjoy a few civilised drinks in the unique clockwork- and steam-rich surroundings of a Victorian cellar-stroke-toy museum, while being suitably entertained, both visually and aurally.

Dress up and relive the era when clothing was elegant, dirigibles were constantly under threat from sky pirates and goggles were de rigueur.

Agreed agreeable diversions thus far include a licensed bar, tea-duelling, and the services of one Count Adriano Fettuccini, Gentleman Juggler and Comedy Musician for the evening. Further enjoyablenesses are under negotiation and shall be elaborated upon closer to the date.
