Fordson was the brand name used by Ford & Son Corp., a separate company from The Ford Motor Company, created by Ford in order to circumvent board resistance to his plans to begin to manufacture tractors.
The expansion proved to be a smart move when demand for tractors rocketed during World War I. By 1920, Ford had full control of The Ford Motor Company and the tractor division was integrated into the main company, but the name was kept, and also used for other commercial vehicles.
Fordson Thames was the brand name used for Ford commercial vehicles in Europe from 1939 – 1957.
