J. Francis Parker (d.1990) was a well-known figure in the museum, heritage railway and model railway communities.
Parker was instrumental in resurrecting his parents' collection (The Tickenhill Collection) at at Hartlebury Castle in 1962, and was involved with both the Talyllyn Railway Preservation Society and the Newcomen Society.
The Parker Model Railway
Parker's collection of gauge 1 model railways pieces was donated to Bristol Industrial Museum in 1979, where it was installed as a working public layout. However, the job of maintaining a set of old and hand-engineered locomotives and running stock on continual display meant that the museum ended up needing to have a volunteer servicing the layout pretty much full-time, and the layout had to be retired.
Bristol Industrial Museum closed in 2006, and reopened in 2011 after a redesign as Bristol Museums M Shed.
