Märklin sold a range of spinning tops and similar toys through the 1930s. While most spinning-tops had a spindle on top with a spiral groove that let one spin up the top by pumping the handle, Märklin made the handle separate, which meant that they could sell multiple tops with a single driver, which a child could use to keep all the tops spinning at the same time.

They also expanded the system to include colour-changing tops and discs, "singing" tops that created multiple musical tones, and "aeroplane propeller" style discs with novelty shapes, that flew when released.
