Scalex and Startex were brandnames used by Minimodels Ltd. for their products – Scalex being the main scale model range, and Startex having clockwork motors.
The main historical interest in the Scalex name is that when Minimodels decided to install an electric motor in the cars powered from a slotcar track, the brandname became the more familiar Scalextric.
The name Scalex persisted after Lines Brothers buyout, on the company's range of toy boats.
