Steam-powered lorries and wagons (spelt "waggons" by the steam manufacturer Sentinel) were reasonably commonplace on the roads until the mid-1930s, when diesel engines became sufficiently advanced to be able to replace them and started to dominate.
As of 2015, the museum's collection of steam-powered lorry models consists of a set of twenty-five steam lorry and steam wagon variants in the Matchbox Models of Yesteryear cabinet.
