Early 2022 saw the "dressing" of the street's bollards and the hanging of flags as a "wayfaring" exercise, to give the street a more unified and colourful sense of location and a stronger identity. Designed by Richard Wolfstrome, the new artwork joined a painted bright blue mural at the top of Trafalgar Street by Dave Pop, flagging the street as the gateway to the North Laine.

2022 press release:

Trafalgar Street celebrates the launch of its colourful new art trail with exclusive £25 vouchers give-away!

Brighton Toy and Model Museum, along with the other independent businesses on Trafalgar Street, have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that a new colourful wayfaring art trail will be installed during English Tourism Week, which runs from 18th – 27th March, 2022.

Many residents and visitors to Brighton have been impressed with the amazing new mural recently completed by local street artist, Dave Pop, just outside Brighton Railway Station at the start of the underpass. This eye-catching design, carnival style lettering and bold neon colours, will direct people to North Laine via Trafalgar Street. Those behind the project aim to make Trafalgar Street the most colourful street in the city. Alongside the mural, local community art and design consultant, Richard Wolfstrome has created some fun designs which capture the colourful vibe of Trafalgar Street. Fabricated by Brighton based Lollipop Print - installation is due to commence Friday 25th March, 2022.

This scheme, along with the removal of graffiti in the station underpass and a brilliant marketing campaign through Visit Brighton, has been made possible through the EU Welcome Back Fund. Trafalgar Street Traders successfully applied for this funding to encourage shoppers back onto our high street after the lockdowns. To celebrate this, Trafalgar Street shops, cafes and restaurants have got together to have a launch day on Saturday 2nd April - offering fantastic £25 off vouchers as raffle prizes to spend at your favourite shops, including Oliver’s, Bluebell and Co, Mangetout, Le Baobab Cuisine, The Point, All About Audrey, Madhatters, Caffe Aldo, Red Fish Art and Coffee, The Laine Deli, Paint Pots, Molecule, Neoma, New Wave Exchange, a years family membership at the Toy Museum and many more.

All you have to do to enter is visit Trafalgar Street on Saturday 2nd April and make a purchase in a participating shop to be included in our grand draw.

Prizes will be drawn at a special event taking place in The Toy Museum at 7pm - doors open at 6.30pm with free admission for all those who entered the competition.

Jan Etches, Museum Manager, says:- "Trafalgar Street is the gateway to North Laine. This fabulous wayfaring, along with Dave Pop’s mural at the start of the street, will definitely make us the most colourful street on North Laine - come see for yourselves and win one of the many £25 vouchers being given away!"
