Metropolitan underground locomotive (1934) [image info]
Resources and information on model underground trains and related topics.
The Metropolitan Railway was the first real underground railway system, and although the Metropolitan had started out in 1863 using fairly conventional-looking steam locomotives, they started using special electrically-powered vehicles in 1905, and this gave model manufacturers the first real "underground trains" to model.
As an added bonus, the electric trains had fewer moving parts to model than most steam locos, and with the introduction of electric train sets, an electric model of an electric locomotive had a certain additional authenticity to it.
