Shelf 1

A rather large gold-coloured tinplate model biplane with single front propellor, Crawfords Aeroplane "Pride of London" A-ONE ("Crawford's Air Service") whose body doubles as a biscuit tin.

The biplane model has a rectangular cross-section body, with the wing-pair mounted above and below, with a central mount that allowed the wings to be swivelled in line with the body for packing into its box. The biplane is displayed in front of its original box, "Crawford's Aeroplane / filled with Crawford's Biscuits"

Each upper wing carries a bright colour Union Jack, and the plane body is lithographed with windows along the sides, and a top view of a cockpit on the upper front surface.

This exhibit is from the collection of Sarah Leather
