About the character
The original folk-riddle of Humpty Dumpty is first recorded in 1803, but could easily be older. Eventually Humpty was used in Through the Looking Glass, where he argues over the meaning of words with Alice, applying whichever meanings he wishes, regardless of how hard this makes it to understand him.
