A brown "JACOB & Co.'s, BISCUITS" wagon with brown roof and black base, and bare metal couplings.
Description
The wagon has a hinged opening central side door with a small wire handle on each side.
There is a simple gold, black and red "HORNBY SERIES" logo, rectangular with rounded corners and red border, screenprinted in the lower right hand corner of the wall.
While the chassis is the typical 1920s-style Hornby Series version, the brown roof corresponds to the version shown in the 1928 Hornby Book of Trains rather than the white-roofed 1925 version.
The wire handle represents an extra degree of sophistication over the earlier folded metal handles. Meccano Ltd. later simplified the design of all these wagons by giving them sliding doors (which eliminated the door hinge), and by making the sliding-door handle a simple punched-through and raised vertical strip, which could be made with a single stamping operation.
