Elgin chair base with "Elgin Enfield" mark [image info]
An "Old English Style" dark brown Jacobean Dining Chair designed and made by Eric Elgin (circa ~1919-1920).
Design differences
This chair is similar but not quite the same as the usual unmarked "Tri-ang / Elgin for Tri-ang" chairs - it's fractionally higher, and the design is slightly more elegant and detailed (for instance, the edges on the seat are subtly bevelled).
The base of the chair is also stamped with Eric Elgin's "Elgin / Enfield" mark, with a shared "E", which suggests that this chair was perhaps more likely to have been sold by Elgin himself, rather than Lines Brothers.
