Arch Three , Area 31 |
A green, painted, cast-iron paperweight model of a 4-4-2 C6 "Atlantic" (North Eastern Railway Class V) locomotive and tender, running number 532.
The original locomotive
Locomotive 532 was built in late 1903 as the prototype for designer Wilson Worsdell's Class V series, and the number of Class V's increased to ten over the next year. The class was inspired partly by the 4-4-2 locos coming into service on the GNR, and partly by Worsdell's recent experience of 4-4-2 Atlantics in the US.
As originally built, number 532 had some design issues (like a low cab roof) that were corrected before the rest of the run of ten were completed.
A further run of Class V -derived locos, the Class V/09, was built in 1910.
