Peter Palmer volunteered at the museum from its very earliest days. His speciality was tin toys, and his job as an airline steward allowed him to track down little shops around the world that held old stock of forgotten toys, some of his favourites being some old junk shops in Cairo.
Peter was always bringing back tinplate toys from abroad, and he and his wife would run a stall at toy fairs.
Peter was one of the nicest people you could ever meet. After his retirement he was in the museum one or two days a week staffing the shop counter, and when his health prevented him from being able to operate the till, he'd still come in and meet and greet customers.
Peter passed away in January 2016.
