A very rare (and slightly lovely) blue lead cast Dinky Toys Pickfords Van 28b, first casting.
This is the very first, "1920's-style" version of the van, dating from 1934-35.
It has a silver grille, metal wheels, and the sides are lettered "PICKFORDS / REMOVALS AND STORAGE / OVER 100 BRANCHES" in gold text with black outlining, which looks really nice against the blue paintwork, making this one of the most sought-after models in the set.
The van used the Hornby Modelled Miniatures 22d Delivery Van moulding, which was discontinued the following year.
Auction prices
The Pickfords version of this van is particularly pretty, and one is supposed to have recently sold at auction for eighteen hundred pounds.
