The museum's Minic Ships display is laid out on top of a sheet of original Tri-ang "Sea Plastic" (available in two sizes as M 857 and M 858).
This rippled textured plastic sheeting is actually extremely realistic and has just the right amount of reflective "gleam" ... although an occasional staff member has voiced dark suspicions that something very similar may have been sold in the 1960s as plastic shower curtain.
