A white Hornby Series M Series Telegraph Pole No.1 from the mid-1930s.
The telegraph pole is an upright girderlike "H" cross-section pole made from folded tinplate, white with six broad blue bands, holding up two horizontal telegraph cable support crosspieces (which are black on one side, white on the other), and with a round black base. The blue bands produce a 50% blue-and-white banding.
The No.1 version seems to be identical to the No.2 version, except the No.2 is half-again as high, (giving ~nine bands rather than six). The larger No.2 version is the one that tends to be illustrated in catalogues.
