A grey and red Hornby Gauge 0 Trolley Wagon No.2, dating from the early 1920s.
Description
The long eight-wheeler "No.2" wagon has a grey bed and couplings, black buffers, two black four-wheel bogies and two red lumber supports with chains (as on the No.2 Lumber Wagon), but it differs form the lumber wagon in having a central "dropped floor" region whose top is lower than the tops of the wheels. This allowed the stable transport of very heavy loads while keeping a low centre of gravity, or the transport of large bulky items such as industrial transformers which, if placed on a conventional wagon, might result in a loaded wagon that was too tall to be allowed onto the rail network.
The wagon is marked "50 TON TROLLEY" on white on the top of the droppped floor, and "N.E." in white on the side of the trolloey bed, above a wheel bogey.
