An impressively large, black, 4-6-4 "Hudson" locomotive model, built using the special "Number A" Erector metal construction set from Gilbert and Co., circa 1939, "The set that builds the Super Locomotive".

The model is assembled, and displayed alongside its original box.

Gilbert "Erector" Hudson locomotive kits, Gamages catalogue 1932

Sometimes listed, appropriately, as the "Giant Locomotive Set", this monster kit was already pretty expensive if one left out the tender, so versions of the set were produced "with and without".

This example "Number A" is the set without the tender (as can be seen from the box artwork), although we have the tender on display as well.
