A grey B.E.V Electric Truck with a standing tan driver in the front driver cutaway.
These rechargeable vehicles were commonly used to transport goods on the large flat area behind the driver's section, which didn't even have a seat. Surprisingly for a vehicle keeping its controls behind the standing driver, these electric trucks were highly manoeuvrable. In a smart decision, the brake is activated by the driver's foot being lifted from the brake pedal.
The model was produced from 1948-1960, renumbered to 400 in 1954.
British Electric Vehicles
BEV were acquired by electrical component manufacturer Wingrove and Rogers in 1926, who seem to have moved the company to their location in Liverpool. Wingrove and Rogers' address was Old Swan, Liverpool, the same as Meccano Ltd., making the two companies neighbours or near-neighbours. If BEV were making interesting vehicles, it is only natural that Meccano ltd would have known about it, and been interested in producing a toy version.
