A camouflaged model of the Art Deco Brooklands Aerodrome Club Building, produced as part of the 1930s Skybirds range, item number 29.
Brooklands was one of the first aerodromes to offer integrated modern club member facilities (such as a restaurant) specially designed and built into the core infrastructure, so that members could look out of the windows while having a meal and watching the planes landing and taking off. The control tower and clubroom(s) were designed by Graham Dawbarn and put up in 1932. They are now officially listed (grade II) and preserved.
Design
The clubhouse model is a single-storey building with a row of four divided windows. For authenticity one would need to buy two of these, to butt up against and flank the left-hand and right-hand sides of the Skybirds Brooklands Control Tower, but we're guessing that most buyers would be content with just buying one of them.
Finish
The original finish would have been "Artex"-style textured paint to simulate cement, with the building being white or off-white with yellow window details. This example would have been sold later (probably 19139/1940), and has been repainted by the company to "update" it to camouflage colours.
