Card No. 07: The CIERVA AUTOGIRO C.30 P (Great Britain).
Unlike the normal aeroplane, which obtains its lift by forward speed and the resistance of the air to a fixed wing, the Autogiro has three rotating blades which, when turning, obtain sufficient lift to support the aircraft without forward movement; it can thus ascend and descend almost vertically, and in the air can remain practically stationary. A single engine starts the rotor blades and maintains the forward motion. The cruising speed is about 95 mph. The Autogiro has proved very successful and may lead to interesting developments in aviation.
