An afternoon of supervised educational play and art and craft activities inspired by the classic toy creations of Frank Hornby. This event is organised as part of the Frank Hornby Week 150th Anniversary celebrations, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Bring the children for an afternoon of supervised fun and educational activities, coordinated by volunteers. The afternoon's activities are inspired by the works of Frank Hornby - Meccano, Hornby Trains and Dinky Toys.

Children can practice their creative skills in the arts and crafts area, and play at construction with plastic Meccano and wooden train and roadway sets.

Age range

This event is suggested as being suitable, overall, for ages 4-10 (plus accompanying adults).

• The plastic Meccano is manufactured by Meccano France, and has a manufacturer's suggested age range of 5-8 years.

• The wooden roadway and train sets are made by BigJigs, who recommend it for ages 3+ ... but we're having trouble keeping our hands off it.

• The smattering of wooden Thomas the Tank Engine locos to run on the track are made by Tomy, and rated 2+
