Card No. 46 : The SAVOIA-MARCHETTI S-66 (Italy)
This three-engined flying-boat is unique amongst commercial aircraft by reason of its twin hulls which seat seven passengers each and are connected by the centre section of the wing which also accommodates the two pilots In the extreme end of the hulls there is a sleeping compartment with two berths on each side of a central gangway. The type has been developed from the earlier twin- engined machines which made the historic Atlantic crossing in formation. They have a cruising speed of about 146 m.p.h. and are used on the Adriatic and Mediterranean air routes.
