The 1950s and 1960s saw a surge in interest in the UK is Western stories, promoted by films and the growth of television, which showed a number of imported "western" TV series.

This was associated sales of diecast "cap-guns" (largely from the Lone Star brand, manufactured by "Die Cast Machine Toys", "DCMT"), "cowboys and indians" play costumes, and the "Swoppets" Cowboys and Indians ranges.

Interestingly, apart from Britains Ltd., the "Western" TV tiein toys seem to have been largely produced by the smallest smaller toy companies, with the larger companies perhaps dubious about how big the demand would actually be for toys based on the Wild West, or how well such a series would fit into their existing ranges.

US TV series

As a popular and well-understood format that translated well from books, film, ad radio, American "western" TV series proliferated after WW2 to an extent that it is difficult to find an exhaustive listing.

A few of the most popular and most influential series that crossed the Atlantic to UK tv (or were so big that they influenced British culture ndirectly) include:

1955-1962 – Cheyenne

1957-1959 – Zorro
1957-1962 – Maverick
1958-1961 – Wanted Dead or Alive
1959-1965 – Rawhide
1959–1973 – Bonanza
1962-1965 – Wagon Train
1962-1971 – The Virginian
1965-1969 – The Wild, Wild West
1967-1971 – The High Chaparral

Brighton Toy and Model Museum is a World-class repository and display environment for early toys and models situated under Brighton Railway Station, on England's South Coast.

The museum is a Registered Charity (1001560), and depends on volunteers, ticket sales, donations and bequests.
