There was a slight dual personality to the branding, depending on where you looked: while the manufactured goods proudly bore the stickers proclaiming them to be "Hornby Series" trains, the print advertising usually instead referred to the product range as Hornby Trains.
Meccano Ltd.'s range of gauge 0 model railway equipment was advertised under the "Hornby Trains" name from a few years after its inception (when the Hornby and Zulu ranges were merged) until the very final gauge 0 production after World War Two.

The "Hornby Trains" tag doesn't seem to have been used for the smaller-gauge trains (which were Hornby Dublo, and then after the brand was taken over, Tri-ang Hornby, and then, again, Hornby Railways, and finally just "Hornby"). However, there's a fair amount of confusion over the name, not least because the pre-war production didn't actually seem to be branded Hornby Trains anywhere on the actual product - until the end of World War Two, just about everything train-related that Meccano Ltd. made in gauge 0 was fixed with a high-profile red and gold Hornby Series sticker, which usually also included the Meccano name ((or, during the 1920s, if space was tight, a small "MLDL" sticker, signifying "Meccano Ltd, Liverpool"). Over in France, the French Hornby gauge 0 products were similarly stickered "Serie Hornby".

The beloved "Hornby Series" stickers also occasionally appeared on other isolated items that weren't train-related, such as the Meccano sawbench.

Hornby Trains / Hornby Series

For clarity, we've referred to the wiki category for gauge 0 Hornby Trains as "Hornby Series" (which is how most of the pieces were tagged), with the post-war production referred to as "Hornby Trains post-war".

Tiering

The "Hornby Series" range followed the Meccano Outfits range in having different tiers of product: The No.1 locos were standard 0-4-0 engines based on the original Hornby Clockwork train, the No.2 locos were bigger with more wheels, and more numbers were added to the system as the the sophistication (and cost) increased, along with enhanced "special" variants. Below No.1 was the No.0 loco (printed tinplate rather than enamelled), and there was also an entry-level M series tinplate range aimed at smaller children.
